the relationship of the elements to each other
- alchamey, chemistry, photography, collage composition, balance
- The task is to first determine what are the underlying elements and the different ways in which they can relate to each other
- ELEMENTS (positive) -- what are the negative counterparts? and the in-between?
- movement/stillness
- sound/silence
- light/darkness -- shadows!
- perception -- understanding/ambiguity
INSTRUMENTS
- stage
- lights
- computer
- body
-
NOTIONS
- elegance
- refinement
- sensual (banal?)
- opposites (black/white) -- negative space
- SHADOWS!
- what metaphore/idea needs to sing? How to make it sing…
- counterpoint in music composition (could even use a Palestrina mass or Lassus)
- seems like it will be relativity of the body to the sound and light as illustrated by movement. -- this generates a PROBLEM with my categorization of elements and instruments
MULTIDIMENSIONAL space of oppositions, moving between the interaction of the different relationships as articulated by the different instruments
the elements of the machine (the aesthetic machine) are movement/sound&light, the output of the machine is an aesthetic gestalt. The illustration of the working together of the elements is the piece
- becoming--- elements becoming instruments and instruments becoming elements…..
- establish relationships (dancer controls light) and then establish a second one, sound controls dancer (sound is enacted by dancer). as second one is being established (sound control dancer) there is a shift in the first relationship.. or maybe after
shadows of relativity.

suggested future/history
as stop motion, as instigation of motion
-----------TANGENTS-------------
TIME LAG??? with a window to the past? I second delay in the drag of a video image/sound -- easy to do with video, but the problem is that the connections must be established with sound and light (via the events that trigger them) -- does not seem to fit into the scope of the project, but is interesting none the less
