Relationships
dancer (performer, actuatoe, actuated)
audience (receiver, projector of trajectories)
stage (instrument, frame)
light (form, illuminator, appeture)
audio
============
The relationship of the dancer/sound/light/stage/audience elements shifts throughout the performance.
Instances of…
- dancer is revealed/controlled/frozen y light
v
- dancer controls and directs light
-stage amplifies the presence of the dancer into audio
v
- audio frames (aesthetically and architecturally) the dancer -- ie convolution could change the sense of the space
-audio indicates the presence of the dancer
v
- dancer obscures/removes audio
- audience receives data
v
- audience projects data (logical conclusion of an action is not supported or played out) -- thinking of piece snapshots, where audience can hear same thing as performers and come up with their own interpretation and compare to that of performer
==================
AESTHETIC NOTIONS
-black and white forms (Weston)
-intimacy, delicate, reduced to elegant simplicity (Lungen video) -- hyper audio and lighting to focus perception of audience
- sensual
- structure/cube/frame for holding lights -- could be a a corner!!! opening to the audience
- elevated stage within? (can bottom light it)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
===================
- can have flashes of light that reveal the frame/space being created (box as it were), the dancer is indirectly lit with these.
- at some point dancer can be directly lit with light in poses
- dancer can move into a position of controlling the light
((could be an actualy physical cage, which actually holds the lights involved))
===================
- dancers movements can be directly translated to sound
- particular poses/snapshot/pauses of the dancer can be used as cause of sound
- dancer can move opposite of sound (sound when dancer still, silence when moving) -- requires light
===================
-audience observes unpredictable pattern and surrenders to unpredictability of it.
- audience observes predictable pattern and surrenders to that (this can be disrupted)
==================
- a midair “snapshot” of the dancer can be a frozen moment of silence in an otherwise chaotic din of sound
- a midair snapshot can be a burst of audio in a vast space of silence
-visual snapshot could be direct lighting of a component of the dancer to create a form
- visual snapshot could be indirect lighting of dancer so that the light’s edge and dancers edge bind in a continuous arc
